Bread Uttapam

Ingredients
  • Bread - 5 slices
  • Curd - ½ cup
  • Rava/Semolina - ½ cup
  • Maida - 2 tbsp
  • Tomato - 1
  • Onion - 1
Preparation

1.Take out the bread crusts and break it into small pieces.

2.In a grinder add curd, rava, maida, bread pieces and water. Grind everything to a thick, smooth and even paste.

3.Take out the mixture in a bowl. Add chopped tomato, onion,coriander leaves and salt. Mix everything and make a thick batter.

4.Heat a pan at medium heat and spread some oil on it. Pour spoonful of batter and spread it to make a small pancake. Pour some oil around uttapam to make it crispy.

5.Flip it over and cook till bread uttapam become  crispy from both sides. Serve bread uttapam with your favorite chutney or sauce.

Bread Pudding

This is a simple recipe which is not using any oven/baking.

Ingredients
  • Egg - 2
  • Bread crumbs - 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tbsp
  • Sugar  - 1/4 cup
  • Vanilla essence - 1/2 tsp
  • Maida - 1 tbsp
  • Baking powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt
Preparation

1. In a bowl mix bread crumbs, maida, salt  and baking powder.

2.In another bowl beat eggs with sugar until it becomes fluffy. Add vanilla essence, dry ingredients in other bowl  and mix well.

3.Add vegetable oil and mix until it combined well.

4.Heat a non stick pan on stove. Add 1 tsp ghee. Pour this batter and cook it for 15 -20 minutes in very low flame.

Bread Vada

Ingredients 
  • Bread - 6 slices
  • Semolina - 1/4 cup
  • Rice flour - 1/4 cup
  • Onion - 1
  • Curd - 1/2 cup
  • Green Chilly - 2
  • Curry leaf - 1 sprig
  • Hing - 1/4 tsp
  • Ginger - 1/2 tsp
Preparation

1.Cut bread slices into small pieces.Add semolina,rice flour,curd,hing,salt,finely chopped onion,ginger,curryleaves and mix well .

2.Add bread and curd accrodingly to get a soft dough out of it.

3.Heat oil in a pan. Grease your palms and take small portions of the vada mix and roll out into balls and press in the palm and make a hole in the centre and put into the oil

4.Fry both sides until golden colour

Bread Halwa


Ingredients
  • Bread - 6 slices
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Sugar - 1/2 cup
  • Ghee - 1/4 cup
  • Cardamom powder - 1/4tsp
  • Cashew/Raisin/Almonds - a few
Preparation

1.Cut the bread slices into small pieces.

2.Heat ghee in a pan and fry cashew & raisins. Keep it aside. Then saute bread pieces in ghee.

3.Add milk and sugar. When bread pieces stick together add cardamom powder, cashew and raisins.

4.When it reaches the consistency( it will become non-sticky and it starts leaving the sides) switch off the flame.

5.Grease the plate with little ghee and spread the halwa into it.

Bread Upma



Ingredients 
  • Bread - 5 slices
  • Onion- 1
  • Tomato - 2
  • Green chilli - 2 slit
  • Ginger -1/2 tsp finely chopped
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • Sambar powder - 1 tsp
  • Ghee or oil - 2 tsp for frying bread
  • Salt to taste
For the seasoning
  • Oil - 2 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - few
Preparation 

1.Cut bread into small pieces or pulse it in mixer 2-3 times.

2.Heat 2 tsp of ghee and roast the bread until golden brown. Switch off and let the bread be in the heat of the pan.

3.Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add onions, ginger, green chillies, curry leaves and saute until onions turn transparent.

4.Then add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, sambar powder, salt needed and cook until tomatoes are soft.

5.Then add bread pieces and toss until bread is well coated with the masala. Serve hot.

Bread Unniyappam

It is an easy version and here we are not using the unniyappam mould

Ingredients
  • Coconut bits - 1tbsp
  • Black Sesame seeds - 1 tsp
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp
For Batter
  • Bread slices - 6
  • Small banana - 4
  • Jaggery - 1/2 cup
  • Cardamom (crushed) - 4
  • Salt - a pinch
Preparation

1.Mix ingredients  to a medium thick batter. Consistency should be similar to that of an idli batter.

2. Heat ghee in a pan and fry the coconut bits and add it in the batter. Saute sesame seeds in the same ghee and add it in batter.

3.Take some water in a bowl and keep it aside.

4.Heat oil in pan, take a deep curved spoon(like ice-cream scooper) dip it in water and take batter using this spoon and put it in hot oil. Deep fry it in oil.


Bread Rolls

 
1.Bread - 5 slices
2.Milk - 1/2 cup
3.Vegetable filling 
    Onion - 1
    Potato - 1
    Green chilly - 2
    Ginger - 1/2 tsp
    Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
    Pepper powder - 1/4 tsp

1.Fry onions with ginger and green chillies. Add garam masala, pepper powder and salt to it. Then mix it well with mashed potatoes.
2.Take a flat plate and pour little cold milk and dip the bread (both sides) in the milk. Gently press with your fingers to squeeze out the milk
3.Put a teaspoon of the filling in the bread. Now close the bread gently.
4.But tightly and firmly shape into an oval shaped ball. Let it sit on a plate for a few min.
5.Heat oil in a frying pan and deep fry them. When it is browned on all sides strain on a paper tissue.

Bread Pakora

Ingredients 
  • Bread slices - 4
  • Besan/ gram flour - 1/2 cup
  • Rice flour - 1/4 cup
  • Baking soda- 2 pinches
  • Asafoetida - A pinch
  • Red Chilly powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt 
  • Oil 
Preparation

1.In a mixing bowl, mix besan, rice flour, baking soda, asafoetida, red chilly, turmeric and salt with water to make a thick batter.

2. Cut off the edges of the bread and cut them diagonally to make triangles.

3.Heat oil in a pan. Dip each piece of bread in the batter and fry in hot oil. Cook both sides over medium flame.

4.Fry both sides until golden in colour and drain in paper towel. 

Bread Gulab Jamun


Bread - 4 slices
Milk - 1/3 cup

For the sugar syrup

Sugar -1/2 cup
Water -1 cup
Cardamom - 2 crushed
Rose essence - 1/4 tsp

1.Boil sugar and water on low flame. Let the sugar dissolve first. Then keep the flame in medium and boil the sugar syrup until it becomes slightly sticky.
2.Cut the brown crust of the bread and discard it. Dip both sides of the bread in milk, then squeeze out the excess milk. Repeat for all the bread slices.
3.Put the squeezed out bread in a blender and blend it just for a second. Alternatively you can also knead it to a soft dough.
4.Divide the dough into equal parts and make smooth balls from the bread dough
5.Heat oil in a kadai and fry the gulab jamuns in low flame until they turn brown. Keep stirring for even browning.
6.Drop the fried gulab jamuns into the warm sugar syrup.Let the gulab jamuns remain soaked in the sugar syrup for 1-2 hours

French Toast

Ingredients
  • Bread - 8 slices
  • Eggs - 2 
  • Sugar - 2 tbsp
  • Vanilla essence - 1/2 tsp
  • Milk - 1/4 cup
  • Butter/Ghee  

Preparation

1.Break the eggs in a bowl and beat well with the sugar.

2.Add the vanilla essence, milk and mix well.

3.Heat a flat pan, add a tbsp of butter/ghee and smear all over.

4.When hot, dip one slice of bread at a time in the egg and milk mixture. Shallow-fry each slice on both sides till golden brown.

Masala Bread Fry

Ingredients
  • Besan - 1/2 cup
  • Maida - 1 tsp
  • Red chilli - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala - 1 tbsp.
  • Bread (cut length wise) - 4 pcs
  • Salt
Preparation

1.Mix all ingredients except bread with water to make a thick batter.
2. Keep it for 15 mins.
3.Dip bread pieces in the batter and fry it in oil

Bread Balls

Ingredients
  • Bread slices - 5
  • Coconut (grated) - 1/2 cup
  • Egg - 1 
  • Sugar - 1 1/4 tbsp.
  • Cardamom powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Oil- for frying
Preparation

1.Remove the crusts(brown sides) of each bread. Shred each bread into small pieces with your fingers.

2.Crack an egg into it along with sugar, coconut & cardamom powder. (use milk instead of egg if you want it completely vegetarian)

3.Mix all the ingredients together with your hands & make it into a smooth dough. Make small balls out of it & keep it a plate.

4.Heat oil in a kadai (deep bottomed vessel) & deep fry these balls until golden brown in medium heat. Turn the balls faster as it fries at a faster rate.
